Our sanitary ceramics are made from natural raw materials and only obtain their dimensional stability through firing at over 1,200 °C. As a result, subsequent repair is not possible. When it comes to sanitary ceramics, the focus is on hygienic aspects, among other things. It is simply not possible to produce a cold repair compound that permanently guarantees the same properties as the firing of the ceramic glaze.
Sanitary acrylic can be repaired. Repair kits can be found on the open market. Alternatively, we would be happy to send you a list of “bathtub doctors” within Germany who may be able to complete the repair so that almost no color difference is noticeable afterwards. Excellence is an elementary component of Duravit’s corporate philosophy. Therefore, depending on the product, we offer consumers a voluntary manufacturer’s warranty. What’s more, we even offer a lifetime warranty for sanitary ceramics! Requirements and details can be found in our warranty promise:
Metal abrasion can be removed with an abrasive cleaning agent for ceramics without WonderGliss coating. A suitable product for this purpose is, for example, Stahlfix classic from Mr. Muscle.
Leave the cleaner (e.g., pure citric acid) to act for some time. Wet the affected areas with cleaning liquid (possibly soak a cloth or toilet paper with liquid) and leave for a few hours. After that, the dirt is often very easy to remove. As an alternative to citric acid, vinegar, vinegar essence or vinegar cleaner can be used. Foamed cleaners have the advantage of sticking to smooth and vertical surfaces longer than liquid cleaners. Foam can also be sprayed directly under the rim of the toilet rim. They can be used to reliably remove limescale, bacteria and germs.
Duravit bathroom furnishings are suitable for the bathroom and resistant to normal moisture. Standing water on wood (melamine) cover plates should be wiped off. We recommend briefly wiping the furnishings with a dry cloth after an intensive shower or bath and ventilating the room well, or, in the case of indoor bathrooms, using an exhaust fan to extract the air.
The material of the toilet seat is high-quality plastic with a hygienically sealed surface. For this reason, cleaning with water and mild soap is sufficient. This surface is destroyed not only by the direct use of an aggressive cleaner but also by vapors from the action of a cleaning agent in the toilet bowl with the toilet seat closed at the same time. Using aroma stones on the rim of the bowl or tabs from cisterns with a deposit shaft can also destroy the surface of the toilet seat. The hygienically closed protective layer is damaged by the effects of vapors, which causes microscopic pores on the surface to open up. Due to the capillary action, the urine-water mixture can thus penetrate the surface and the toilet seat will discolor. When using a toilet cleaner to clean the toilet, make sure that the toilet seat set (seat ring and lid) remains open until the cleaning agent is completely flushed out of the toilet bowl. This will prevent vapors from the cleaner from attacking the surface of the toilet seat and hinges.
Acrylic is generally easy to keep clean with a soft cloth and a little water. Please avoid abrasive cleaners at all costs. For occasional basic cleaning and to remove stubborn stains, we recommend the Duravit care set for acrylic surfaces # 790301 00 0 00 0000 - available from specialist dealers. Heavier soiling can also be removed with methylated spirits. Then rinse with warm water.
It is best to clean your WonderGliss coated ceramic surface daily with a damp cloth. Make sure that the cloth is always clean. Microfiber cloths are not recommended. Should a cleaner become necessary, we recommend using a mild agent such as a commercial vinegar cleaner (see recommendations in the care instructions). Acidic cleaners (based on acetic or citric acid) are particularly suitable for removing limescale deposits. To clean your toilet, you can use a toilet brush as usual. If an unexpected stubborn stain has formed on the surface, leave your bathroom cleaner to soak overnight. Foam cleaners are particularly suitable for this purpose, as they adhere well even to sloping surfaces. Alternatively, you can lay toilet paper soaked with cleaner on the dirt.
