  • Swedish Renaissance - Hotel Dorsia in Gothenburg

Although there is no royal palace as such in Gothenburg, the metropolis on the west coast of Sweden is enhanced with a few regal surprises. The country’s second largest city is home to the “avant-garde”, as well as Sweden’s most unique design museum, the "Röhsska”.
Hotel Dorsia brings together design and a regal feeling in the most magnificent accommodation available in this city of skerries. Those entering leave behind the modern day and step into the Renaissance period – at least visually. An amazing feat, especially in view of the fact that the hotel only opened in the summer of this year.

The Dorsia is no ordinary hotel; rather, it creates the impression of being the residence of a prosperous and somewhat eccentric Renaissance aficionado. Or a royal city residence. In the splendid foyer, the guests are greeted by large chaise longues covered with different velvet fabrics and standing on sumptuous carpets. Artistic statues and paintings adorn the walls and hallways. Heavy silk curtains allow only a limited amount of daylight to enter. The Baroque furnishings are illuminated by candles and indirect lighting.

The Dorsia attaches great importance to treating each guest equally. When staying here, every visitor is to feel like a king or queen. The 37 bedrooms help to create this feeling. Each room is different and unique. Smart TVs are placed alongside curved, richly decorated console tables and armchairs in opulent colours. The bathrooms are an integral part of the hotel’s overall concept and feature high-quality walls adorned with mosaics, as well as decorative marble slabs. Duravit bathtubs are a work of art in themselves: in this regal setting, the guest can enjoy a wellness experience either alone in the Starck bathtub or à deux in the Paiova bathtub for two. Happy D. washbasins and toilets, the brainchild of Sieger Design, add the finishing touch to the picturesque bathrooms. Hermès shampoos provide an additional particularly elegant touch. Bedtime is also a luxurious experience: the bed sheets are made of combed Egyptian cotton and the pillows filled with mulberry silk. All other fabrics used throughout the hotel are from the Designers Guild, which gives the Dorsia a touch of Paris during the “belle époque”.
