The year gets off to an “excellent” start for Duravit

Right at the start of 2008, Duravit received news about two awards: the iF product design Award for the e-mood range of bathroom furniture and also for the Blue Moon bathtub. Duravit thus won the race in a highly qualified and competitive international environment of 2,771 submitted products from a total of 35 countries. For Blue Moon, it was the second accolade: at the end of December 2007, the Chicago Athenaeum also rated this bathtub so highly that it gave Duravit the coveted Good Design Award. Chairman Franz Kook assessed these three design awards as being an “excellent start” to the new year and also took this opportunity to look to the future. Today, the design strategy that was launched 20 years ago is still one of the most important success factors for Duravit – together with outstanding value for money. However, Kook doesn’t want to stop at these two areas of expertise, rather he believes that the biggest growth opportunities for the future go hand in hand with a third factor:
“In parallel with design and value for money, we want to further develop technology and innovation”, said the Chairman. He is thus investing increasingly in development and, in this context, also attaches great importance to electronics. In this way, the company wants to “pick up speed” again and continue the growth of recent years. Franz Kook hopes to defy the general trend in the industry and continue to record a two-figure growth.

The award-winning products are preparing the ground for this. With the e-mood furniture range, Duravit has developed a lighting concept that takes account of all specific lighting requirements in the bathroom. State-of-the-art lighting and electrotechnology are the inspiration behind this innovative interior design, which is tailored to suit both new and renovated buildings. This both opens up new design possibilities in the bathroom and, at the same time, introduces the most advanced intelligent technology to the “wet cell” of days gone by.

The basic square surround is characteristic of Blue Moon; it conceals the actual water pool, only revealing to the eye the circular opening. With a generous depth of 58 cm, the pool stands for comfort and spaciousness in the purest form, further underscored by the attractive details. The user floats almost weightlessly in the water and can freely adopt different positions: what better way to unwind and relax than by allowing the buoyancy of the water to carry you?
