SU is the name of this classically designed stool made of recycled aluminum, cement, and reclaimed oak. Originally designed by the company Emeco for the navy, this ultra-light, biodegradable stool has long since become a classic. Oki Sato, the top Japanese designer at the design studio Nendo, has now taken it one step further in cooperation with Emeco.
The design studio Nendo's talents range from architecture to product design.
The studio is a group of creative designers who go against the Japanese tradition of the strict separation of all areas ranging from architecture to product design. Nendo is the Japanese word for modelling clay and the name reflects the flexibility and malleability of design processes. The SU collection is a result of this creative approach. SU is the Japanese word for simple, plain, minimal.
